On June 22, 1991 the NHL entry draft was held in Buffalo, New York. The day before the NHL conducted an event at the Buffalo Convention Center introducing the top 25 rookies. At the conclusion of the event the players were sent to different areas of the convention center to take part in media interviews. I tracked Eric down and had him sign the card, he was really nice, and seemed appreciative. The next day Lindros was selected first overall by the Quebec Nordiques, even after he had made it clear he would never play for the team. When Eric came up on stage after being selected he refused to put on the jersey and only held it for pictures. Buffalo fans booed at his disrespect for the game/tradition, and reserved their applauds for second overall pick Pat Falloon.
