Famous Boxing Promoter Loses Priceless Memorabilia in Fire

December 3, 2011 9:07:43 PM UTC by cardman1968 in Lobby, Sports, Game Worn Apparel & Equipment and Boxing

Casual boxing fans may remember Alex Morrison as the promoter who put together Mike Tyson's (perhaps ill-advised) bout with Lou Savarese at Hampden Park back in 2000, but serious fans of pugilism know that Alex's decades-spanning career is as storied as the gym he operated in Glasgow, Scotland. That gym had as much memorabilia in it as raw boxing talent - and all of it was destroyed in a tragic fire two nights ago. Though we believe that a couple of those items passed through the Collectors Proof registry during ownership changes, the destruction of undocumented memorabilia represents a painful loss to the history of the sport as much as it marks a loss to the 72-year-old pillar of Scottish boxing. Our hearts go out to you today, Alex. Rebuild, please!
