12 Percent of all toys... fake
The Anti-counterfeiting Group estimates that 12% of all toys in the United Kingdom for sale this holiday season are fake.
Now, you may reasonably ask, "If it looks real, plays real, and outlasts my child's interest in it, is it really fake?"
Consider this: fake toys harm society in numerous ways, and may harm your child, as well.
- Fake toys are made under unmonitored conditions, of lowest-cost materials, and by people who know that they will not be held accountable for the quality and safety of those toys.
- Fake toys are quite frequently made in misreable, unsafe sweatshop conditions by workers earning far less than their counterparts on the genuine factory floors.
- Counterfeit toys and other brand goods are responsbile for the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs each year in first world economies like Britain and the U.S.
So, whether for selfish reasons or for altruistic reasons, make an attempt to know where those toys you are buying are coming from.
